Imagine if Baskin Robbins had only one flavor, no other choices and no variety. All they sold was plain, boring vanilla ice cream. Imagine a society with only one culture, the same food, clothes, religion, and ideas. That would be a society with no diversity. What I’ve described is the opposite of what America is and the opposite of what makes America great.

Why do so many people from other countries want to make America home? One of the main reasons is people want freedom. They want the freedom of speech. People want to attend their place of worship without fear and worship their God of choice. Another reason people want to come to America is because it’s the Land of Opportunity. America offers good job opportunities with decent pay. People also have the opportunity to expand their knowledge with a good education. America has some of the best schools in the world. These are some of the reasons people want to call America home.

As a country, it’s not just America offering benefits. The immigrants that move to America provide benefits as well. One thing the immigrants bring to America is culture. One example is food. For instance, the food court at the mall ahs different varieties of food. You can choose from Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Greek, and Mexican food to name a few. Some immigrants bring different ideas and ingenuity. Some examples might include a unique way of teaching in a classroom, a better way to build a structure, or a new way to grow a crop. Imagine what a boring country America would be without the influence of immigrants.

There are so many famous individuals who were not born in this country but moved to America. Albert Einstein was born in Germany in 1879 and moved to America in 1933. Einstein’s contributions are still important today. Madeleine Albright was born in Czechoslovakia in 1937. She is the first female to be America’s Secretary of State. Joseph Pulitzer was born in Hungary in 1847. He was a leading figure in the American newspaper industry in the 1880s. The newspaper was important because it was one of the only sources of information. David Ho was born in 1952 in Taiwan. He was a pioneer in AIDS research and worked hard on finding ways to fight the disease. These are a few examples of individuals who came to America and made huge contributions.

This is why I believe America is the best country in the world. If America was compared to Baskin Robbins, you would find thirty-one different flavors. The flavors would represent different colors, textures, tastes, and smells. When I was five my family adopted my brother from Guatemala. While we were there to pick him up, a woman asked my mom why we adopt their children. My mom asked her why it bothered them so much. She stated they were jealous because he was going to live the life they all dreamed of.
